Weekend away!

So the exciting thing this weekend was that Chris and I went to Amanzimtoti, just outside Durban, so suprise Landi (she got her lungs in Oct last year) with a visit! Luckily no-one said anything so she was suprised! Was a very cool weekend and awesome to get away for a bit, even if it was WAY to short. Unfortunately the weather didn't really play along, it was either very windy or it rained, but at least it was WARMER than freezing Joburg!

We had a quater-caramel loaf on the beach (had to toss half of it because the wind blew too much sand onto it), had big yummy breakfasts every day, had some of her friends over for a braai on Saturday, visited Ushaka Marine World and had SPUR ribs! ALSO... something very cool: I managed to track down my grandparents' old holiday home... They sold it many years ago, and the last time I was there I was about 5 years old, but we didn't stay for long because my lungs didn't like the humudity. Was so strange seeing it again, as I remembered it vaguely, but when I saw it, it was like I suddenly remembered a lot more. Not quite sure how to explain it.

So all in all a successfull weekend. Monday's done but not feeling to excited about this week... Wedding stuff getting hectic again, less than 6 weeks to go!!!!! Hope you had a good weekend too!

2 years 5 months with the new lungies!

29 Months today! Next month is the big 30! Or 2.5 years!!!! Time flies so fast, I want it to slow down yet at the same time I've got so many things that I'm looking forward to, that every now and again I wish I could fast-forward a bit. Have to learn to "live in the moment" more...

Either way, I'm SO HAPPY to be alive and kicking still, with no rejection so far! Have something cool planned for the weekend, but not going to say anything about it now... watch this space!

SOUTH AFRICA IS HOSTING THE WORLD TRANSPLANT GAMES IN 2013!!!!!

YAY, we got it!!!!!!!!! Our team leaders have been working TIRELESSLY to pull this off, and they DID IT!!! Congrats Willie and Heilie on the hard work!!! Willie is in Sweden right now, where they made the announcement today :-) So proud and excited!!!!!!!!! Check out the official announcement . Not sure if the logo at the top is the final one, but it's the one that was was on our latest newsletter. Love it!

Wow... can't WAIT to have Bree, Evlyn and all my other foreign friends here!!! We'd HAVE to organise a roadtrip afterwards, just seeing Durban is NOT enough. Going to be awesome :-) Now we just have to stay healthy. 2013, love to be there, lol!

Louis is gone :-(

Louis passed away on Saturday :-( So 4th friend in 6 months... really hope this is the end of it now. My heart is so sore for his fiance and parents. They were 3 or 4 kids with CF, and he was the last surviving one... and he got a second chance at life with his new lungs... unfortunately it obviously wasn't meant to be. Not fair, and I'll never understand it. The pic was taken in December, it's me and Louis and Landi.

Today's a public holiday (Youth Day), yay! Just as well, because it's soooo cold. Minimum -3 Max 9 degrees C... BBBRRRRRR. And tonight is Bafana Bafana's second game, (we drew against Mexico), so hoping it's a good one! Will be watching @ Andrew's flat... where there's no heater... so we'll be making a fire on the balcony and dressing up super-warmly! Can't believe it's my 3rd winter in Joburg... and in 1 month and 1 week will be 2.5 YEARS with new lungs. Before I know it it'll be 3 years. Wow...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY MOM!!!!

It's my mom's birthday today! So wishing her a very happy birthday!!! Wish I was there, but will be seeing her on the 7th of July!!! She'll be coming up for a short visit and we'll do some final wedding shopping.

I failed my exam yesterday :-( BY 1 MARK!!! Got 68%, needed 70% to pass :-( Bleh... Oh well, doesn't bother me too much. Friends being so sick and passing away lately has put a stupid exam in perspective. Just a nuisance really.

So tomorrow is the start of the FIFA SOCCER WORLD CUP!!! Wow, time has really gone by... I still remember the day in 2004 when we got awarded the tournament... I was watching TV at my then-boyfriend's house, it it was quite exciting, but seemed SO FAR AWAY... Then they lauched this AIDS campaign, called "2010 - love to be there". Which I could relate to... not because I was at risk of getting AIDS, but because I was at risk of CF getting ME before 2010. And if it wasn't for my new lungies, CF would've gotten me in 2008 already. So it's 2010 AND I'M LOVING TO BE HERE!!!!!

The pic above was taken @ Sandton (3km from my work) yesterday when the SA team paraded through the streets. Magic vibe... For AWESOME pics see this website http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/06/preparing_for_the_world_cup.html

2 months to go!!!!

In 2 months time, it'll be my last night as a single lady!!!! Yay can't wait!!! Quite a lot of things that still needs to happen in these 2 months, but all very exciting things.

Been a good weekend. I was right about not sleeping on Friday night though... borderline insomniac + red bull + coffee + alcohol = YOU CAN FORGET ABOUT SLEEPING YOU IDIOT :-) So I studied 2 chapters, started reading "He's just not that into you" that I got for free in a magazine (Turns out Chris IS into me, yay! Well according to the writers of Sex and the City anyway).. played around on facebook, and finally fell asleep at about 3am... just to wake up again @ 7am... and feeling rather like a truck had driven over me! At least it didn't last long, and some coffee and breakfast fixed me!

Went to a potjiekos competition yesterday (that's like stew, made on a fire) We didn't take part, just ate! Was YUMMY as hell. Today I just studied and we had some coffee and milktart with Andrew and Brendan. Very good weekend all in all.

Wednesday is my exam, so I'm on study leave from 12pm tomorrow. Wish me luck!!! Have a good week.

End of the week...

Friday night, yay!!! Home pretty early, we had some team-building directly after work, had some drinks and snacks, very nice! Just as well cos I'm quite tired... Been up early almost every day this week to study. Also had 2 nights where my blood sugar was low, so that also disrupted my sleep. Went to gym twice as well, so that's good.

Some good news... Louis is doing better... he's still ventilated, but better... praying he doesn't have another setback and actually recovers fully! He was doing SO WELL with his new lungs before this happened!

This weekend will be mainly studying, but going out tomorrow night... Hope I fall asleep tonight! Had a coffee and a shooter that had some Red Bull (energy drink that keeps my Dr alive) in... having some milk now...

P.S. reason # 2374834 to become an organ donor... guy I work with was pulled off my the police in a roadblock. When he gave them his liscense with the ORGAN DONOR sticker on, they said "oh, you're an organ donor", and let him go! So there, if, for some reason you still aren't one. BECOME AN ORGAN DONOR.
