I had a double lung transplant 3 months ago, on October 23rd and allthough the week following was very difficult for my family...I don't remember any of it so for me it's asthough it never happened. The 2nd week after I regained conciousness were much more difficult (not that bad, I'm not trying to scare you or her) simply because after so much sedation and sleeping it seemed as though my body simply didnt want to sleep any more at all. I think I went 5 days and nights without a wink of sleep. The days were ok with visitors and docters stopping by but the night were terrible. Such severe restlessness and insomnia and jitteriness and anxiety. I really want to tell you about this so that if this happens to her she can have some peace in the knowledge that it is a normal reaction. Don't tell her about these symptoms if she isn't experiencing them allready as I wouldnt want her to stress about it. Only if she tells you of these problems...maybe you could tell her that someone on the other side of the world experienced the same thing....and no, she is NOT going crazy (as I thought was happening to me until I finally told my doctors about it and they told me it was totally normal). The best way to deal with it is to not stress and take each day as it comes (which is hard when they are all 24 hours long). And as her sister maybe you could offer to chat on the phone in the middle of the night or something.
I'm so sorry to tell you what to do. I don't mean to be pushy at all. I will pray for you, your sister and your family.
One thing I really want to tell you is.......it gets better....MUCH MUCH BETTER!!!
I am at home, back at university (well...one class), my PFT's go up every week, I can run, skip, dance, cross-country ski, everything that I wasn't able to do for the past year or more. It is absolutely amazing. I am in awe of God's miraculous ways and thankful for every breath I take.
I was also thrilled to see the quote at the top of your sisters blog as it is also my FAVOURITE quote and one by which I live my life.
My blog is
65redroses.livejournal.com
if you want to read about my journey through CF and transplant.
Much love and strength to you,
Eva
p.s. I also have a wonderful younger sister who updated my blog while I was sick!
